Does your dog listen when you call?
Just been watching the TV program Talk to the Animals so I thought I would share some interesting tips I learnt.
It is common to hear people in the park calling their dogs with a frustrated, loud tone, like they are yelling at their children. I know I have been guilty of this in the past.
Well, it is the worst thing to do. Whenever you call your dog, it has to be a happy experience for them, otherwise they will not want to come to you, hence they will not respond.
You can talk loudly so that they can hear you, but do it in a happy tone; one tone filled with excitement. Use positive body language like crouching down, in anticipation of them running into your hands.
When your dog comes to you, praise them and welcome them, give then a pat or a hug and they will feel it is a positive experience.
It makes sense doesn’t it, no one wants to respond to a grumpy, angry sounding person, our pets included. What do you think?
